Unlike a local wedding, a destination wedding will not only require planning from you and your spouse, but also from your guests. Guests will have to book flights, hotels, car rentals, and other arrangements months before your big day. Your guests are going out of their way to celebrate your special day, so the least you can do is be courteous and give them advanced notice. It is imperative that you send out save the date cards about 9 months in advance of your big day. This way, your guests will know when they need to take time off from work and can make other arrangements for travel.
A speaker may be tempted to get carried away and push a few boundaries. Of course weddings should be happy and joyful occasions with plenty of humour and laughter, but if things are pushed too far the speaker may end up regretting it.
In the two weeks before the wedding, make sure to touch base and confirm with all your vendors. With some weddings, vendors can be hired a year in advance. Make sure to talk to them shortly before the wedding and confirm what time they will be arriving. Special note: If you hire a wedding planner, this is one of the tasks they will take care of for you.
