It's nice when you have pictures of the preparations. Think of the bride who is the dressing and grooming, while the family waits below. The groom does not this piece, and it's nice to see afterwards how these were moments.
Gifts should never be mentioned on any wedding invitation that is given out by the bride's parents, the groom's parents or the bride and groom. Gifts should not be expected at any time either.
Amateurs are often 'doing you a favor', and are not responsible for a horrid reputation. They may or may not come up with unique ideas and may not know the ethics of great photography. From pacifying an annoyed kid to gracefully taking pictures of the bride and groom's first wedding moments, a lot of skill is involved. So think twice before you decide if you need a professional or amateur.
